In The Mix: Self-Care

This week we asked our DJs how they practice self-care!

We are starting a new weekly video series called 'In The Mix' with your favorite DJs on 99.1 The Mix! You can watch new episodes on our website every Sunday! For our first episode, we wanted to touch on self-care since it was just Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 7-13, 2018)! Each of our DJs were asked, "what is one way that you practice self-care?"

Elizabeth Kay (5:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): "How do I practice self-care? I go to the gym. I work out a couple times a week and it always helps me calm down, keep my focus. I put on my favorite music and I just zone out during my workouts."

Tony "Radar" Hess (5:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): "I always go to the doctor. I know for guys it's like, 'ugh, you know, I'm fine, I'm fine, I'll be fine.' Anytime something comes up, just head to the doctor, give the doctor a call and say, 'hey, is this normal or whatever?' Doc gives you a call back or the nurse gives you a call back and says, 'ehhh, why don't you come on in, we'll take a look at that.' Guys: don't be afraid about going to the doctor. Hitting the doctor is number one!"

Dave "Producer Dave" Stein (5:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): "So, what I like to do, basically every day - if something comes to my mind, I just let myself do it. I don't like, (you know) worry about it or worry if it's the right thing to do or wrong thing to do. Just because mentally, that stresses me out too much. If something comes up, I want to do it, I want to make it to eat - I'll make it and I'll eat it. If I want to go somewhere, I'll go there. If I want to watch a movie, you know I'm going to watch that movie. It just, it helps out!"

Molly Cruz (9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.): "How do I practice self-care? I try to use some me-time. Do some me-time. We're so busy taking care of other people and working and (you know) running around and doing things for other people. So, I try to give myself a little me-time a couple times a week. So, I'll watch my favorite show (which is The Office - I'll watch a million reruns of that), I also find cooking to be super therapeutic. That's how I take care of myself!"

Aaron Carreno (1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.): "Something that I do for self-care, especially over the last couple of years battling anxiety myself, is I make sure that I try to get some daily exercise (at least 20-30 minutes). And then I try to carve out a little bit of time out of the day to do something that I want to do, just kind of by myself. It's kind of like my 'moment of Zen,' so to speak."
