Top 10 Things To Give Up For Lent

Whether you participate or not, this is a great excuse to give up a bad habit!

March 5, 2019

Whether you participate in lent or not, we could all give up some bad or unhealthy habits!!  Here are my 10 things to give up for Lent:

1. Alcohol
- It's hard when you go out with friends to not have a drink, but your wallet and your waistline will DEFINITELY thank you for this.  Waking up without feeling sluggish or groggy is AMAZING.  Try it!

2. Social Media
- A lot of us (myself included) spend WAY too much time on our phones and not enough time connecting with our family and friends!  This is a great excuse to cut down on screen time and enjoy life without your phone!  Even just leaving it in the car while you're running errands or putting it in the other room when you're watching TV or making dinner every night.

3. Fast food/Take out
- This is something I really would like to cut back on too.  We've all been there, right?  You get home from a long day at work and the last thing you want to do is make dinner and clean up the mess.  I think the key here is give yourself a realistic goal, like only eating out 3x a week, to start and see how it goes!  You'll probably like how much extra $$ is left in your bank account too!

4. Sugar
- OK, I can't cut this out completely because I have a really big sweet tooth.. but I think we can all cut back!  Again, maybe 1 sweet treat a day OR just cream (not sugar) in your morning coffee.

5. Complaining
- We all do it.. this is something we can consciously try to do less and incorporate more positive thoughts.  I always try to put things through the "is this the worst thing that could be happening right now?" filter.  Most times, the answer is NO.. so it's not worth complaining or wasting negative energy on.

6. Snacking between meals
- Boredom does not equal hunger!  Sometimes we forget that and end up snacking instead of just stepping away and taking a lap around the house/office or drinking a glass of water.

7. Red meat
- You've seen all the studies and articles about how too much red meat isn't good for you, so maybe try a meatless Monday meal.. Here's one of my super easy and delicious meatless meals for you!

8. Coffee
- Another one I cannot give up.. but we can all cut back to a cup less a day.

9. Soda/Sugary drinks
- I tried this a few years ago and haven't looked back!    It seems really hard at first, but try to find a healthy alternative to replace those drinks with.  I love LaCroix and sparkling water SO MUCH MORE than soda now!

10. Texting and driving
- We ALL know this is terrible.. but so many people still do it. Put the phone in your purse or in the glove compartment to reduce the urge to look while driving.

I hope this helps you kick start Lent or just give up an unhealthy habit you've been hanging on to for a bit too long!  Good luck and reach out anytime to chat.. @mollyonthemix on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter :)
