Cure Your Cabin Fever with These Suggestions

Are you getting stir-crazy too?

February 17, 2019

This has been a special Winter, not just one major snowstorm but a few with extremely low temperatures for a few of them. The cold mixed with snow and freezing rain has been enough reason to stay inside. For this weekend’s episode of "In The Mix" we asked our DJs for some ideas on how we can kick the feeling of cabin fever!

Elizabeth Kay (5:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): "How do I cure cabin fever? Honestly, I go outside. So, afriend of mine told me if you want to get through Wisconsin winters, you have to take up a winter sport. So, about four years ago, I finally got back into skiing, hadn’t done it in about 15 years. Now, I go out to the hill quite a bit. It keeps me active. It makes me feel like I’m enjoying the snow, instead of complaining about the snow. Although, I don’t like driving in the snow. We all can agree, that sucks.”

Tony "Radar" Hess (5:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): "Easy cure for cabin fever: Are you ready? Drink a lot. No, okay, well you have the kids and everything, probably, at home, like I do. So, I tell my teenagers, ‘Look, when spring comes you wanna get out and have some fun because it’ll be nice and warm. So now, stay inside, and clean your room!’ It’s the best thing to do. Get rid of everything. Get rid of all the junk. That way when everybody else is saying, ‘We gotta do spring cleaning,’ you can say ‘Ha, did that in the winter.’ Don’t have cabin fever, clean room, clean house, everything is good to go. We’re going outside in spring!

Dave "Producer Dave" Stein (5:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.): "The only way to get over cabin fever is to embrace it. Have fun! You’re inside, you’ve got so many activities you can do. Cooking, amazing activity because it warms up the house with the oven and stove on, and then you get a great reward when it’s all done. You’re going to eat something delicious, and if it’s not delicious, you’ll act like it’s delicious because you made it.”

Molly Cruz (9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.): "Okay, so, I probably don’t have the best answer here because I’m an introvert and I like hanging out at home, but I will say when I am feeling a little stir crazy at home during these grey, dark months, I will go outside with my dogs and just walk around the backyard or take them around the block once. Just get some fresh air. That helps. I also have a Happy Light in my office. Aaron recommended it to me, and I love it. It definitely helps with the stir craziness and, you know, seasonal depression. It’s great. Highly recommend it.”

Aaron Carreno (1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.): “The cure for cabin fever is taking a vacation, says the vacation guy. And I’m happy to help you plan your vacation for cheap.”
