A few weeks ago I over did it with a tricep workout and ended straining my right wrist. As someone who is right handed, it was frustrating using my computer mouse and phone and feeling pain. That's when my husband suggested I use his wrist straps.

To be clear, they're not meant to be worn ALL the time (especially if you're working on grip training), but they have significantly taken stress off of my wrist when doing certain excercises. I especially use them when doing overhead cable tricep extensions (pictured at The Wisconsin Athletic Club)

And they don't cost a lot either. You can find lots of videos and demos online to give you more ways to use these straps. And keep in mind, when working out and especially lifting, make sure to use common sense :)
