Memorial Day Weekend MUSTS!

Top 5 "Must Do" Things

May 22, 2019

Ahhhh...Summer in Wisconsin...nothing beats it, right?

OK, maybe it's not *quite* Summer yet, but Memorial Day Weekend marks to "unofficial" start of the season!

As you may or may not know, I work in both Milwaukee (99.1 The Mix) & Madison (MIX 105.1), so here are my picks for Top 5 things to do this weekend that'll get your Summer started off on the right note.  I've included activities in specifically Milwaukee and Madison which you can easily turn into an adventure!  (feeling REALLY adventurous? try them all!)

  •  Get to Miller Park Friday - Sunday to see the Brewers play Philadelphia!  Tickets available HERE

Note:  Nothing beats spending the day (or night) at the ballpark.  With weather in the mid to upper 70's this weekend, tailgating and spending time with the family cheering on the Crew is a must!  There's a ton of new menu items to try out this season, in addition to fun promotions too!

  •  Cheer on our MIlwaukee Bucks as they continue their quest to the NBA Finals by visiting the new Deer District!  Located right outside of Fiserv Forum, there are PLENTY of dining/drinking options including one of my favorite places, Punch Bowl Social.  Feeling nostalgic?  Give The Mecca a try!  Viewing parties continue both Thursday AND Saturday night (plus Monday, if necessary).  Don't forget to arrive early!

Note:  Traffic around Fiserv Forum and the Deer District has been shut down on Juneau Avenue due to crowd control.  As I mentioned above, it gets busy, so getting there early is important.  Not feeling the crowds this time around?  Do what we've done, and hop over to Old World 3rd Street bars and restaurants, as you'll likely have more room to spread out and sit.  *GO BUCKS!*

  • It's the "World's Largest Brat Fest", the official kickoff to Summer in Southern Wisconsin!  What I LOVE about Brat Fest, is that it's FREE to attend, and benefits over 100+ local charities.  The 3-day festival features a TON of great bands and artists every year, featuring this year's headliner Smashmouth and Wisconsin native (and last season's runner-up on NBC's The Voice), Chris Kroeze

TIP:  Love eating brats but looking to try something different?  Try the Chicken Chipotle Monterey Jack Brat - it's SO good! There's also a plant-based brat for those who don't eat meat, along with a ton of other food items to try, games, activities for the kiddos and more.  Keep in mind that it's not a bad idea to bring cash with you, as several vendors do not accept cards.

  • If you haven't been so far this year, stop out Saturday morning around the square for the infamous Dane County Farmers' Market!  On any given Saturday, roughly 150-175 vendors set up around the State Captial selling fresh, organic vegetables, paintings and art, along with beautiful flowers!  I've travelled to many major cities during my time on this Earth and nothing compares to the fanfare and size of this farmer's market.

Note:  Planning on bringing a blanket to spread out on the lawn of Wisconsin's Captial? Fine!  Bringing a dog? They're not permitted on the square during the hours of the farmer's market.  Outside of the pedestrian area is fine, but it might be easier to leave your beloved pooch at home.  If I can offer one recommendation, you HAVE TO try Stella's Hot & Spicy Cheese Bread. It's THAT good.
