WATCH: Man Captures Video of 'Ghost' Running at Gettysburg

September 16, 2020

(WWJ) The shadow flits across the screen like a plume of smoke — except there's nothing to cast a shadow in the dark, and there's no reason for smoke.

So what is the transparent figure that was captured in movement that looks like running in front of a cannon on the historic battleground at Gettysburg?

Many have a verdict: It's a ghost.

Greg Yuelling, 46, of New Jersey, captured the video and he said it initially struck him as fog, but a fog like he had never seen before. He was at Gettysburg as a tourist with his family.

“We were driving along one night and we started hearing noises, I heard things to the left and my uncle heard things to the right, and there was a fog, but the fog was weird, it was only in one patch not dispersed,” Yuelling told The Sun.

He started shooting video when he realized the fog had taken the shape of humans.

“It was scary, it was crazy. My uncle got so scared he rolled up the window,” Yuelling told The Sun.

Later, Yuelling said, they watched the videos “over and over again,” enlarging it to get a closer look. What he saw, he says, were ghosts.

“It was really exciting, but I also got this strange, ominous feeling, like something was telling me to go back there," Yuelling said, adding: "I couldn't go to sleep but I was creeped out, so I didn’t go.”

Critics say it's a smudge on the windwhield picking up light or maybe a shadow from oncoming headlights. Others think there's no explanation other than ghostly apparitions haunting hallowed ground. Gettysburg was the site of massive death in 1863 as Union and Confederate soldiers clashed. The two armies suffered between 46,000 and 51,000 casualties, including the missing, wounded and killed, making it the deadliest battle of the war.
